SHANDON, CALIFORNIA (April 20, 2017) – At least one person was killed and more were injured in a car accident on Highway 46 and Highway 41 on Thursday afternoon, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 2:50 pm at the connector for Highway 41 and Highway 46. A motorhome reportedly made an abrupt turn from Highway 46 onto Highway 41, into the path of a pickup truck towing a trailer. A woman and child were ejected from the motorhome during the accident.
The woman that was ejected, 37 year old Cheryl Vanwettering, was tragically killed in the accident. The child that was ejected was airlifted to a hospital with major injuries. Also injured in the accident was the driver of the pickup truck, 60 year old John Saxon. The driver of the motorhome, 44 year old Fransisco Savala, sustained minor injuries in the accident. The incident remains under active investigation to determine cause and liability at this time.
