The accident happened around 11:40 pm on Tuesday on the northbound side of the 5 Freeway near Tamarack Avenue. A man driving under the influence of alcohol was operating a silver Honda Civic in reverse when he backed into a semi-truck on the freeway.
The driver of the semi-truck was able to extricate the man from the car, and paramedics responded to the scene to tend to his injuries. The accident remains under open investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
