BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (January 4, 2017) – Over 100 people suffered injuries in an accident on Wednesday morning at Brooklyn’s Atlantic Terminal, according to several news sources. (map)
A piece of metal that appeared to be part of a rail pierced the bottom of a train as it approached a Brooklyn area station, causing the train to lift up off the tracks. The accident happened around 8:30 am at the Atlantic Terminal.
Of the 600-700 people estimated to be on the train, over 100 reported minor injuries. 11 of them were hospitalized for their injuries, and their current condition is unknown. The driver of the train was taken into custody for questioning by police.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
“Almost one death or injury per day occurs on the rail system in the United States. Many of these tragic deaths are avoidable, the rail system is antiquated and needs a complete overhaul to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and train passengers,” said Attorney from Lexton Law Firm.
