63 year old Umamaheswara Kalapatapu was piloting a Piper PA 28 that was also carrying his wife Sitha-Gita on Saturday morning near Columbus. They took off from the Logansport Airport sometime before 10:00 am, and the plane was reported missing a short time later. The plane was found in a retention pond near the AEP Waterford Facility before finding wreckage of the plane.
Umamaheswara Kalapatapu was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, as was his wife Sitha-Gita. The cause for the crash is unclear, and the accident remains under investigation at this time.
