BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA (February 26, 2017) – A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed on Sunday on California Avenue, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 4:15 a.m. on California Avenue, near Mervyn’s Place. A vehicle was heading eastbound on California Avenue when the driver spotted a man lying in the road up ahead. He swerved in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, but subsequently struck the man in the road.

The pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency medical personnel. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, and authorities have confirmed that alcohol, speed, and drugs were not factors on the part of the driver. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
