The accident happened on County Road 577 near Highway 54 in Audrain County. Melissa Hodde attempted to cross the tracks in her 1999 Jeep Wrangler, and was subsequently struck by a 1967 G.E. Locomotive.

Melissa Hodde and her passenger, 37 year old Stephanie Stevens, were both badly injured in the accident and were airlifted to a nearby hospital. The investigation is ongoing to determine cause and liability.

“I wish a swift and steady recovery for all parties who were injured in this collision. Our prayers are with all subjects injured, their friends and families during such a difficult time,” said a personal injury attorney.

“Almost one death or injury per day occurs on the rail system in the United States. Many of these tragic deaths are avoidable, the rail system is antiquated and needs a complete overhaul to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and train passengers,” said Attorney from Lexton Law Firm.
