Fatal Head-On Crash Causes Tragic Death of Jude Douden and Joseph Rantz on Highway 49 Near Joeger Road
AUBURN, California (December 16, 2016) – Two high school 12th graders, Jude Douden and Joseph Rantz were killed in a crash on Highway 49 near Joeger Road. Both teens were 18 years old and from Grass Valley. They were traveling in a 1999 white BMW, when all of a sudden they lost of control of their vehicle and it swerved into the northbound lanes, colliding head-on with a Ford F-350 truck.
Both boys were wearing seat belts, however, the driver of the BMW, Douden, was ejected from the car and into a creek. Both young men died on-site. The driver of the Ford truck was apparently uninjured.
The crash is still under investigation. Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as possible causes. Weather conditions were believed to be a possible factor.
