ARTESIA, CALIFORNIA (January 14, 2017) – Valeria Altamirez has been identified as the victim killed in a tragic accident on the 91 Freeway on Saturday, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident occurred around 12:00 am on Saturday on the eastbound side of the 91 freeway near Pioneer Boulevard. A 2004 Kia Sorrento driven by 22 year old Valeria Altamirez that was carrying three passengers, struck a raised cement divider, and careened down an off-ramp, striking a traffic light and a pedestrian.
Valeria Altamirez was tragically declared dead at the scene of the accident. The pedestrian, identified as 25 year old Edgar Verdusco, suffered major injuries and was hospitalized. Three of the passengers inside the Kia were hospitalized as well, and one of the passengers was identified as 23 year old Martha Mendoza. The investigation is ongoing to determine cause and liability in this matter.
