Antonio Navarrete Killed in Explosion at Big Bend Power Plant

TAMPA, FLORIDA (July 5 , 2017) – Antonio Navarrete, one of the workers injured in an explosion at the Big Bend power plant on June 29th, has tragically died according to a local news source. (map)

21 year old Antonio Navarrete was unplugging a slag tank at the Big Bend Power Station on June 29th when the tank erupted, spewing molten slag over six of the workers, including Antonio Navarrete.

Antonio Navarrete was rushed to a hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries and died on Wednesday evening. Antonio Navarrete was reportedly a contractor working at the plant, and was working for Brace Industrial Group.

Two men were killed instantly in the accident, and three more remain hospitalized including another Brace Industrial employee, Armando J. Perez, and two men contracted through Gaffin Industrial Services, Frank Lee Jones and Gary Marine Jr. The accident remains under open investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
