ANTIOCH: Pedestrian Struck by Train Accident Killed on North Avenue near Main Street

“Investigation Ongoing”

ANTIOCH, ILLINOIS (February 25, 2017) – A pedestrian was struck by a freight train on Saturday afternoon in Antioch near North Avenue, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 4:00 p.m. on North Avenue near Main Street, about 200 yards south of the rail crossing. A pedestrian, who remains unidentified, was walking on the tracks when they were hit by a Canadian National Railroad train.

The pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency medical personnel. Nobody on board the train reported any injuries. The accident remains under investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.

“Almost one death or injury per day occurs on the rail system in the United States. Many of these tragic deaths are avoidable, the rail system is antiquated and needs a complete overhaul to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and train passengers,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm.
