ALTON, ILLINOIS (December 26, 2016) – A pickup truck crashed into the front of a Subway restaurant on Washington Avenue on Monday, leaving two people injured, according to local news sources. (map)
The accident happened around 12:00 pm. Witnesses saw the driver of a pickup truck sitting in his truck in the parking lot, on the phone and appearing agitated. Moments later, the pickup truck drove through the front of the Subway restaurant, pinning one employee against the wall between several pieces of wreckage, and continuing to push on the gas pedal until smoke filled the building from the spinning tires.
The driver of the pickup truck was subdued by authorities after they arrived, and was taken to the hospital. The employee was also rescued and hospitalized, although their injuries appear to be non-life-threatening. The investigation is ongoing to determine why the driver of the pickup truck drove through the front of the restaurant.
“Any injured party involved in an accident will have a bodily injury claim against the negligent driver who caused the accident,” said a car accident and personal injury lawyer.
