The accident happened around 11:30 am on Wyndale Road and Kenwarn Lane. A waste management truck crossed the intersection over the train tracks, and was then struck by a Norfolk Southern Railway train.
The driver of the garbage truck, David Anderson, was seriously injured and was rushed to Bristol Regional Medical Center. The rail crossing reportedly has a small white marker and stop sign, but no gates, lights, or bells to signal that a train is coming. An investigation is ongoing to determine cause and liability.
“Almost one death or injury per day occurs on the rail system in the United States. Many of these tragic deaths are avoidable, the rail system is antiquated and needs a complete overhaul to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and train passengers,” said Attorney from Lexton Law Firm.
