WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS (June 12, 2017) – Christopher Gardner was tragically pronounced dead after being left in a daycare vehicle all day, according to a local news source. (map)
5 year old Christopher Gardner was picked up from his home around 6:30 am, where his mother signed for him to board the daycare vehicle. He was then en route to Ascent Child Care, and arrived around 7:15 am to the facility on West Tyler Cove. When the van arrived at the daycare, somehow the 5 year old was left inside the van, where he remained for the rest of the day.
Authorities responded to the scene after 3:00 pm when daycare workers started to load the rest of the children back inside the car to take them home, and noticed Christopher. Tragically, little Christopher was pronounced dead at the scene. Christopher was reportedly recovering from two heart surgeries, and was attending Ascent because the daycare deals with children with developmental disorders and disabilities.
A thorough investigation is being conducted into the child’s death at this time. Temperatures reached near 100 degrees on Monday afternoon in the area. The Arkansas Department of Human Services, who oversees and regulates day cares, is also investigating the incident as they attempt to determine how the child was left behind in the car.
