MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN (May 24, 2017) – 17 year old Owen Knutson was tragically identified as the pilot killed in a small plane crash on Wednesday evening, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened on Wednesday, after 17 year old Owen Knutson took off from a private airstrip on his family’s property near Chetek. The plane was also carrying 18 year old Hunter Gillett, a friend of Knutson. Shortly after takeoff, several witnesses saw the small Piper Cub aircraft going down.
Emergency medical services rushed to the scene, and found the small plane had crashed into the Red Cedar River, 3 miles south of Chetek. Tragically, 17 year old pilot Owen Knutson was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 18 year old Hunter Gillett, was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, but it remains under investigation.
